The grandson of Grisha came to a woman’s village in a Don village. He immediately ran off to ski, but the grandmother did not feel lonely anymore - her grandson's things were lying everywhere, and the house “blew a living spirit”.
The son and daughter of Baba Duni have long lived in the city. Previously, she often stayed with children for several days, but recently she began to scream and talk in her sleep. In order not to wake the whole apartment at night, Baba Dunya began to come rarely and only for a day. And now the grandson of Grisha has grown up and visited his granny not only on vacation, but also on holidays. She hardly recognized her grandson in this long-legged, big-armed teenager.
All evening, Grisha was going fishing - he dismantled his gear, and at night he was awakened by the cry of woman Duni. She dreamed that a war was going on, and she had lost grocery cards, and now the children would starve.
Grisha woke Granny, persuaded him to turn to his right side, but soon Baba Dunya screamed again. This time she dreamed that she went for Don to pick up acorns from which to grind flour and bake flat cakes. On the ferry, the foresters took away the bags of acorns, and now the children will starve. Grisha stood up again and reassured Baba Dunya.
A few days later the boy went to the post office to call his mother. She advised shouting at granny when she started screaming in her sleep. On the way home, Grisha wondered how to help Baba Duna, for whom her bitter and difficult past revived at night.
Grisha did not sleep at night. When Baba Duna again dreamed of losing cards, Grisha wanted to shout at her, but could not. He gently hugged granny and said that he had found the cards that she dropped. And the woman Dunya calmed down.
Then Grisha sat for a long time by the stove and cried.
He did not sleep, but was in a strange oblivion, as if in distant, different years, and in a stranger's life, and he saw there, in this life, so bitter, such misfortune and sadness, that he could not help crying.
Baba Dunya spoke again. Now she dreamed that she was making her way to her husband in the hospital, she had to spend the night somewhere, but she was not allowed. Grisha convinced her that she would be allowed to spend the night and put her on the bed, not on the floor. Baba Dunya didn’t scream anymore.
Grisha did not sleep for a long time, imagining how in the morning he would tell about everything to woman Duna, but then he suddenly realized that it was impossible to talk about it, otherwise his “treatment” would not work. For the rest of the time, he will be silent and help granny until the night of healing arrives.
