(304 words) The play The Examiner, written by Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol in 1886, showed images of people in the Russian province of the 1930s. In his comedy, the author addresses important social issues that concern even our contemporaries. For example, the problem of false goals and values that made heroes vulgar, ignorant, greedy and hypocritical inhabitants. Each of them is a reflection of what he dreams of.
All characters strive for material values. The protagonist, for example, is poor, and his fundamental dream is to be a rich and respected person. Therefore, Khlestakov is deceiving, having guessed about the confusion that has occurred. The daughter of the mayor intends to marry successfully, but there is no talk of love. Therefore, the girl becomes a victim of the lies of the visiting "examiner." Her mother also lives on whims and banal consumer values: balls, outfits, flirting, daydreaming about St. Petersburg. Anton Antonovich himself does not dream of real successes in the service, but rather as soon as possible to leave his native land, move to the capital, taking with him the money acquired by dishonest labor. His “subordinates” (Lyapkin-Tyapkin, Dobchinsky and Bobchinsky) want no one to notice their “work”. In their speech, only the thirst for profit and the desire to please superior persons are heard. So it is not difficult to understand what caused the deplorable finale, why officials were completely unprepared for verification.
So, all the dreams of heroes can be combined into one. They want wealth, honor, a beautiful life and, most importantly, that all this was given just like that. At the same time, many of them are ready to leave their dreams with dreams, if only they would not touch them. Such, for example, are ordinary townspeople who are robbed by officials, but, despite this, they again give a bribe, deceive and flatter again, cherishing their unrealistic dreams about quality medicine, sensible police, good roads. They think only of themselves, believing that everything should be done perfectly for them, and other people do not deserve it. But they don’t understand why everything around happens differently. But because their selfish dreams still materialize, but take on terrifying forms of indifference, devastation and hopelessness.
