There are many examples in the literature when heroes have shown phenomenal devotion to their beliefs, their love, their homeland. Some faithfully served and defended the fatherland, others waited and believed in one single love, and someone remained true to himself, no matter what. Consider specific examples so as not to be unfounded.
The hero of Bunin's story “Dark Alleys”, Nikolai Alekseevich, meets his former beloved Nadezhda. Once, as a young landowner, he first seduced the girl, and then threw and trampled her feelings. For Nikolai Alekseevich, what happened was “a vulgar, ordinary story,” but for Nadezhda this became the most significant event in life. The heroine has been faithful to one person all her life, because she loved sincerely. She sacrificed personal happiness for the sake of a great feeling, which is not for everyone. It illuminated her path, devoid of cunning, because the woman did not go to deception for the sake of marriage. But it was smoldering by the decay of a distant fire, for the sake of which it was worth maintaining loyalty despite rumor and calculation. Vladimir Vysotsky once said that fidelity is the only currency that will never depreciate. Indeed, trust and fidelity are the best payment for sincere love. Devotion must be valued as a treasure, because it is based on responsibility, perseverance and courage.
In Kuprin’s novel “The Duel”, the hero keeps his word even at gunpoint, because he promised not to seriously fight Shurochka, who tricked him into participating in a farce. Romashov had a fight with her husband because of anonymous notes revealing Shura’s relationship with Romochka. The jealous husband was furious and found a way to a duel. However, the heroine persuaded the man in love with her not to shoot seriously, but to pretend that the battle took place. So the wife of Shura was not threatened by either shame or death. But the woman deceived Romashov, who died in an unfair battle: he was shot seriously. So the officer fell victim to fidelity to his word.
Thus, Russian literature presents to the reader a whole gallery of images that are true to their word and feeling. These people are not fictional characters. These are real Russian people whose virtues were sung by their talented compatriots.
