(237 words) Unfortunately, quite often we do not pay attention to other people, we live our own lives, we think only about our troubles and misfortunes. Kuprin’s story tells the story of a family that was in a difficult situation and needed help. No one wanted to support them; only a miracle saved them - Dr. Pirogov.
The Mertsalovs lived poorly in a cold basement. They found themselves in a difficult situation: there was no food, warmth, the girl fell ill, her mother felt bad, her father was fired from work, and there was no money at all. Everyone to whom they turned for help drove them out, to receive at least some money by asking for alms did not work either. Due to hopelessness, Mertsalov decided to hang himself in the park, but a man walked there. With him, the hero on emotions shared all his problems. Dr. Pirogov was the first and only person who did not refuse help. Without thinking, he immediately went to the Mertsalovs, examined the sick girl, wrote out a prescription, gave money for food and firewood, left “a few large credit tickets”. For this, the doctor did not ask for anything in return. He helped a poor family disinterestedly. It was a real miracle for them. From that moment on, their life began to improve and acquire so long lost paints.
In this story, a “wonderful” doctor is contrasted with a large number of indifferent people. Whether he considered it his duty to help the poor and cure the girl, or if he wanted to do good out of a whim, is unknown. But by his act, he saved an entire family from death. He gave them that which is more expensive and more necessary than money; he revived in them the hope of a happy life.
