(270 words) After reading Lermontov’s novel “A Hero of Our Time”, I singled out an interesting and multifaceted female image. This is Vera - a woman whom Pechorin himself fell in love with. Although the selfish man brought her a lot of torment, he still saw in her exceptional virtues that make her image unique.
The characterization of Faith comes from Dr. Werner. He says that she is a beautiful woman with blond hair and an expressive face. She is sick with consumption and comes to the south for treatment. She has a long affair with Pechorin. Now the heroine is married to a rich man. She attributes this step to concern for her son’s fate. She understands that the disease is progressing, and soon the boy will remain an orphan. In order to give him a ticket to life in the form of solid capital, she sacrifices herself and marries not out of love. The selflessness and passion of this lady attracts not only Gregory, but also the reader. Faith is also characterized by a fine mental organization: she alone understands the main character and does not impose her ideas about the ideal on him. She loved him real. She does not mask her feelings with false indifference in trying to lure Pechorin. She is jealous of the princess and openly demonstrates this. Also, fearlessly and bluntly, she declares to her husband her attraction to her lover. He, of course, takes her away. Having lost his beloved woman, Gregory drives the horse in pursuit of her and, left with nothing, cries hysterically. If Vera managed to awaken this indifferent and selfish nature, then she is truly a phenomenal lady.
I liked Vera because she is a sincere and open person, capable of deeply feeling. She is an understanding, passionate and kind woman, although not without vices of her time. However, only such a strong and feminine wise heroine could save the gifted but unfortunate Pechorin from himself.
