Princess Mary is very beautiful. Pechorin speaks of the charms of her velvet eyes and the whiteness of her teeth. This puzzles his friends: the hero speaks of a woman as a thoroughbred horse. However, this behavior of Gregory is easy to explain. Appearance of Princess Mary is clearly not enough to impress the hero. Pechorin understands the character of the girl and does not feel deep feelings for her. Yes, she is not stupid, she knows English, reads serious works, plays musical instruments, sings ... But all this does not work out very well for a young woman. Fans do not pay attention to this: they appreciate the beauty of the princess. However, all the hobbies of the heroine are just a tribute to fashion. Why try to do something perfectly, if you can just smile at the other person and thereby subdue him?
Pechorin notices that Princess Mary is proud, and does not behave like the young people she knows: he simply does not notice her.
