Francis Morgan, the wealthy heir to large business owner Richard Henry Morgan, thinks lazily about what to do. At this time, the former rival of the late R. G. Morgan in stock games, Sir Thomas Regan, learns from a certain Alvarez Torres that he knows the location of the treasure hidden by the ancestor of the Morgan family, pirate Henry Morgan. Torres offers to equip the expedition. Regan, who had once tried unsuccessfully to ruin Father Francis, now wants to settle accounts with his son. The absence of a young Morgan in his hand. Therefore, he, not at all believing in the existence of the treasure, agrees with the idea of the expedition provided that his “young friend” takes part in it, who supposedly needs to be saved from the temptations of the big city.
The possibility of an exciting trip seems attractive to Francis. He leaves from New York to Panama and immediately falls into an adventure zone. On the shore where he had landed, some pretty girl entered into conversation with him, as if they had known each other for a long time. Now showering with reproaches and threatening with a revolver, then kissing him, she ends with an order to immediately and permanently leave these places. Having understood nothing, the young man obeys.
Having reached one of the islands, Francis meets an enraged man there, immediately demanding, like the girl, that he cleaned away. Here it comes to melee. Francis threatens to put the stranger on his shoulder blades, but he himself is pressed to the ground. We have to endure humiliation and leave the island. After that, the winner mockingly asks if the enemy will leave his business card? With a snort in response, Francis still calls his last name. Upon hearing it, the owner of the island makes the assumption that he had a fight with someone from distant relatives: his name is Henry Morgan. Looking at the portrait of the ancestor of the Morgans hanging in his hut, he realizes another thing - the amazing outward resemblance of an uninvited guest to the old pirate and himself. Henry's attitude toward the enemy is changing. Seeing how, on the other side of the Strait, Francis struggles to beat off the Indians who attacked him, he rushes to his aid, and then drags the weakened one into a hut. Much is being clarified here. Young people call their names and conclude that they have a common ancestor, the treasures of which both are looking for. After listening to Francis' story about a meeting with a strange girl, Henry realizes that this is the daughter of the Spaniard Enrico Solano, Leoncia, with whom he was engaged and who took the stranger for him because of their striking similarities. The wedding did not take place, because the groom was accused of killing Alfaro Solano, Uncle Leoncia. Henry did not commit the murders, but by chance it was he who found Alfaro's body with a knife in his back, and at that moment the gendarmes saw him. Due to a false accusation, Leoncia returned Henry the wedding ring he had given him, and Henry, in order to avoid reprisal, had to flee.
Francis undertakes to resolve the misunderstanding, deliver to Leoncia the ring she returned and explain the true state of affairs. All this succeeds, but the appearance of Torres hinders the general world. He is in love with Leonsia and set as his goal any means to eliminate her fiancé. As a result of the intrigues, Francis and Henry almost lose their lives on the same charge of killing Alfaro (the similarity played a role here too). But they manage to escape the gallows and escape from the pursuit, led by the chief of police and Torres, into the depths of the Cordillera. The fugitives are accompanied by the entire Solano family. On the way, Francis saves the life of a slave who escaped from the torment of the master-planter. Suddenly an old Indian appears, the father of this man. In gratitude for saving his son, he proposes that Francis and his companions be led to the place where the Mayan treasures are kept. Francis hesitates: he should return to New York, to the affairs of the stock market, and most importantly - he is too attracted to Leoncia, and it is better to leave so as not to compete with Henry. Meanwhile, Leoncia realized that her feelings were doubled: she loves both Morgan! Concerned about this, Leoncia still does not want to be parted with Francis, and, giving in to her desire, he remains.
All participants in the events descend from the mountains. Expedition is being prepared. A week later, she goes again to the Cordillera. The old Native American leads travelers to the foot of a high cliff. Having hardly found a gap in it, they penetrate inside and find themselves in a cave with many mummies and a pile of bones. These are the remains of those who once tried to find the Mayan treasures. At every step, new aliens are in danger. Having fallen into the abyss under the feet of the stone goddess Chia, the son of a guide dies. From the opened emptiness, water begins to beat with a fountain and fills the cave, the collapse closes the previously found entrance.
The trouble brings the captives of the mountain with Torres, imperceptibly sneaking into her womb after them. Then you have to act together, helping each other. With difficulty, it is possible to find a saving passage through which, without finding treasures and almost losing their lives, they get out into the open. Below lies a valley called the Valley of Lost Souls. The tribe living there meets the strangers with hostility. For the decision of their fate, the old priest turns to the supreme ruler of the tribe. This is a beautiful young woman with a golden tiara on her head - a real queen, according to Henry. Her decision is unexpected: all prisoners will survive only if one of the men marries her. Since no one expresses a desire to become the chosen one of the Queen, Leoncia proposes to cast lots. He falls out to Henry, but Francis, trying, contrary to his own feeling, to save the union of a friend and his bride, announces that he is ready to become the queen's husband. (This is the most desirable choice for her: it is Francis who is dear to her from the first minute.) Meanwhile, Torres, having discovered that there is a chest full of precious stones in the royal chambers, is trying to take possession of wealth (although he does not know that he sees treasures in front of him, ancient times stolen by the Lost Souls from a cache in a Mayan cave). But the thief was caught by the queen at the crime scene. Entering the struggle with her, he makes a careless movement and falls into the stream foaming near the house, which carries him under the rock.
The priest performs the wedding ceremony of Francis and the Queen, but immediately after the ceremony he and the entire population of the valley begin a decisive attack on the strangers. It remains only to run. By order of the Queen, Francis lowers a chest of jewels into a hidden hatch under the floor of the house, and all four jump into the stream, carried away by Torres. The underground river takes them to a safe place. After some time, the fugitives reach the city of San Antonio, where the expedition began, and the Solano family, who already considered everyone dead, takes them into their arms. Then Francis brought a telegram that urgently needs to return to New York, as his financial situation is in jeopardy. He and the queen are leaving.
In New York, Francis is immersed in business, and his wife is not without difficulty mastering the wonders of civilization. Hearing once a conversation between Francis and a friend to whom he admits that he is married to one woman and loves another, and having seen the portrait of Leoncia, the queen realizes that she has been deceived in her husband’s feelings and leaves the house. Investigations are unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, Torres appears in San Antonio, who escaped in the same way as the rest. He shows the jeweler one of the few stolen stones, in his estimation he guesses the millionth value of the whole treasure and decides to go after it. The Solano family suddenly learns two important secrets, backed up by strong evidence: Enrico adopted by her as a child, Leoncia is actually an Englishwoman and has a sister Henry (no wedding!), And the killer Alfaro - Torres.
The Queen arrives in San Antonio with the intention of destroying her rival. However, after a frank conversation with Leoncia, she has one desire left - to help Francis defeat the enemies. Therefore, she wants to return for her jewels in order to transfer them to him. Henry equips an expedition that is moving in the mountains at the same time as Torres’s squad, but on a different road. Torres is the first to reach the goal. The chest was found, but it cannot be captured, since a hail of arrows falls upon the kidnappers: The Lost Souls decided to kill anyone who approaches the village. At this time, Henry and the Queen appear on a cliff ledge. Seeing them, Torres shoots, and his bullet hits the queen. Escaping from attacking Souls, he escapes from the valley, but falls into the gorge and, unable to get out of it, dies.
Meanwhile, in New York, Francis and his broker finally figure out who is ruining the heir to R. G. Morgan. However, a direct conversation with Regan does not change the situation - disaster is approaching. And here in the house of Francis, Henry and Leoncia appear with a full suitcase of jewelry. These are millions of dollars. Francis is saved, and ruin threatens Regan. Henry tells about everything that happened after the departure of a friend and reports that since Leoncy turned out to be his sister, now nothing prevents Francis from marrying her.
